Manchester Societies is a new organisation with a remit to promote the city’s heritage through making residents and visitors aware of its unique institutions.
The city has some venerable and ancient groups such as Cheetam’s Library (1653) and the Manchester Literary & Philosophical Society (1781). Among the well-known members is the Cornerhouse. Lesser known members include the Manchester Ancient Egypt Society.
Manchester has some incredible hidden gems such as the Portico Library. The picture to the left shows Manchester Societies chairman Brian Rarity stood next to a seated Vince Holt from web company 11 out of 10.
