Yes, Manchester may not be quite as old as London, or as enormous as New York. But what we lack in size or age we make up for in easy to get to quick sights to see for the seasoned tourist.

And to help us on our way Google have invented a snazzy way for getting the recommended Manchester tourist sights. They’ve set up a way for the locals to add interesting places, it’s called Google City Tours. The sights are shown on a Google Map.

If you click on the Google City Tours link it currently shows a variety of different places to visit, including:

Last week Warner announced that they were going to tour with an exhibition of Harry Potter sets, costumes and other stuff.

The press release notes: ‘“Harry Potter: The Exhibition” will include elaborate displays of authentic costumes, props and
artifacts from popular environments featured in the films such as those from Hogwarts School of
Witchcraft and Wizardry, including the Gryffindor common room and Hagrid’s hut. During its run,
the exhibit will also be updated to include artifacts from the final instalments of the Harry Potter film
series.’

Sounds like great fun.

Manchester Museum of Science and Industry have had the Star Trek and Doctor Who Exhibitions so they would be a great candidate for having the exhibition at their premises.

Having lived next to the Mancunian Way for 2 years as a university student I’m baffled as to why I didn’t think of the name myself.

I lived in a nice little hall of residence called Grosvenor Place, ideally situated between UMIST and my department (Chemistry), the RNCM and McDougall centre, where I spent an inordinate amount of time swimming.

When I lived there the Museum of Science and Industry was right next door in a large detached house – how times have changed for MOSI as it now sprawls over an enormous site in Castlefield!

And of course from Grosvenor Place you could strike out to various watering holes including my favourites, Tommy Duck’s and The Salisbury. Tommy’s having disappeared many years ago under a car park and then buildings, and The Salisbury became a pale remnant of it’s former self.

Anyway, well done for thinking of the name…now what could I rename my blog?

Dr. Who, K9, Rose Tyler, Martha, The Daleks…

Names that are very familiar to anyone who’s current with the latest Dr. Who series with David Tennant.

And if you want to go and see them all they’re on display at The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. Well, in reality the human are only represented in photographs and video. They’ve been here for a while but we’ve been waiting to go and see the exhibition.

Then at last we were ready to go and we went there on Sunday. We had a great time looking round the Dr. Who exhibits.

The Daleks are there though and one of the fun thing is you can stand inside a cutaway Dalek and use a voice changer to sound like a Dalek.

When I tried I was soothingly told that it made the Dalek sound like it was very posh!

Of course if the Daleks are there you’re going to have the other power crazed monsters too aren’t you? The exhibits were great, even close-up. The cybermen looked very shiny and threatening close up.

I suspect a truly dedicated fan would be in their element here. Even so those of us who just enjoy each well-written episode had a great time.

And as the exhibition is on until January 6th 2008 we may have to return for more photos.
