Dance Like Nobody’s Watching
By Jim Symcox on Mar 18, 2008 in Uncategorized
My wife received a quote a few days ago which she has written out and put in front of my computer. It goes like this:
“Work like you don’t need the money
Love like nobody has ever hurt you
Dance like nobody is watching
Sing like nobody is listening
Live as if this was paradise on earth.”
This nicely rounds out the attitude to live life to the fullest as you don’t know how many days you’ve got.
I was so intrigued by this quote that I investigated it’s origins and although it has been attributed to several people including Mark Twain and Satchel Paige one of the administrators on Quoteland forum has summed it all up and suggests the strong balance of probability of the author is William W Purkey.
Purkey was asked whether he’d authored the quote and wrote back with what he believes were his own words:
“You’ve gotta’ dance like there’s nobody watching,
Love like you’ll never be hurt.
Sing like there’s nobody listening,
And live like it’s heaven on earth.”
And in an email from Purkey he notes “And speak from the heart to be heard.”
Anyway, a great quote to live your life by.
