Politeness Rules

A tram from Heaton ParkThrough some unfortunate circumstances I’ve been without my car for two weeks.

Unfortunate because my daughter goes to a school in Whitefield.

Fortunately we live within a 10 minute walk of Bowker Vale metro station and the school is walkable from the Whitefield tram stop.

So over the last few days my daughter and I have been taking the tram to and from school.

One thing I was quite surprised by was the politeness of so many people on the trams.

On almost every journey I saw people giving up their seats for women and older people. One or two actually insisted and got out of their seats to allow people to sit down.

Yet we’re all told that society is getting ruder and less polite.

Not from the evidence of the last few days!

Well done Metrolink passengers.
